8 Ways to Get More From Your Branding Photos

One branding shoot. So many ways to use your photos.

You’ve invested in a branding photoshoot.

You’ve got a gallery full of beautiful, professional images that actually look and feel like you and your business.

So… what do you do with them?

If your answer is “I put a few on Instagram every now and then”, you’re definitely not getting the most from your investment!

One of the biggest benefits of having a bank of professional branding photos is that they can be used across your entire marketing, helping you to look consistent, professional and recognisable wherever potential clients come across you.

And you don't need to use the same photo everywhere.

A good branding shoot should give you a variety of images, expressions, poses, locations, backgrounds and details that can be used in lots of different ways.

One of my clients Vicky, owner of Little Piggy Marketing, is really great at making the most of her images; so, I thought I would use her marketing activity as an illustration of the 8 ways you can use your branding photos…

Example of how to use branding photos on uour website

Let’s start with one of the most important places your photos can appear: your website.

Your website is often one of the first places a potential client will go when they want to find out more about you.

And while the words on your website are important, the images help tell your story before someone has even read a sentence.

Use your branding photos on:

  • Your homepage
  • About Me page
  • Services pages
  • Blog posts
  • Contact page
  • Testimonials
  • Sales or landing pages
  • Team pages

And don't just use one headshot!

A mixture of portraits, lifestyle images and photographs of you actually doing what you do can make your website feel much more personal and engaging.

For example, a marketing consultant might have photos of herself working at her desk, having a meeting with a client, making notes, talking on the phone, as well as more traditional portraits.

Suddenly, your website isn't just telling people about your business.

It's showing them.

Examples of how to use branding photos on Instagram posts

Of course, Instagram is an obvious one!

But your branding photos can do much more than provide the occasional pretty picture for your feed.

Use them for:

  • Your profile picture
  • Feed posts
  • Carousels
  • Reels covers
  • Stories
  • Behind-the-scenes content
  • Promotional posts
  • Quote graphics
  • Testimonials
  • Educational posts
  • Launches and announcements

Having a bank of different images also means you don't have to scramble around looking for something suitable every time you want to post.

You might use a portrait for a post about you, a photograph of you working for an educational post, and a close-up detail shot as the background for a quote or testimonial.

And here's an important point:

You don't need a completely different photo for every post.

A good branding image can be cropped, used with text or combined with graphics to create lots of different pieces of content.

Examples of how to use branding photos on LinkedIn posts

If you're using LinkedIn to build your personal brand, professional relationships or attract clients, your branding photos can be incredibly useful here too.

Your LinkedIn profile photo is an obvious place to start, but don't stop there.

Use your images in your posts to make your content more recognisable and visually interesting.

For example, you could use:

A portrait
For a post introducing yourself or sharing a personal story.

A working shot
For a post about something you're currently working on.

A detail shot
For an educational or thought-leadership post.

A photo with a client or colleague
For a post about collaboration, networking or a project you've worked on.

LinkedIn is a busy place, and a strong, relevant image can help your post stand out as people scroll through their feed.

Examples of the use of branding photos on Facebook posts

Facebook might not be the first platform you think of when you think about branding photography, but your images can work just as hard here.

Use them on your business page, in posts, announcements, offers, testimonials and educational content.

And if you have a personal profile where you regularly talk about your business, your branding photos can help keep your personal brand consistent there too.

Think about all those moments when you're sharing something about your business.

Instead of always reaching for a generic stock image, use a photograph of you.

It makes the content feel much more personal.

Illustration of how to use branding photography for press and PR opportunities

This is one that is often overlooked.

If you are featured in a magazine, newspaper, industry publication, podcast, online article or business directory, you may be asked for a photograph.

And you don't want to be desperately searching through your phone for a decent headshot!

Having a collection of professional images ready to go means you can quickly provide the right photograph for the opportunity.

You could have:

  • A professional headshot
  • A relaxed portrait
  • An environmental portrait
  • A photograph of you working
  • A photograph that shows something distinctive about your business

And sometimes the photograph is just as important as the words.

A strong image can make a feature much more visually appealing and can help reinforce your personal brand.

So make sure your photographer gives you images suitable for PR as well as social media.

Example of use of branding photos for networking

If you're someone who regularly attends networking meetings or events, your branding photos can be useful here too.

Think about your:

  • Networking profile
  • Membership directories
  • Speaker profiles
  • Event introductions
  • Networking presentations
  • Business cards
  • Follow-up emails
  • Event promotion

And there's another benefit to having professional photos when you network.

When people have already seen your face online, on your website or in your social media, you're more recognisable when you meet them in person.

That's particularly useful when you're attending events with lots of people.

Your personal brand starts to become familiar before you've even had the conversation.

Illustration of how to use branding photos in email marketing

If you send newsletters or regular emails to your clients and subscribers, don't overlook the opportunity to use your branding photos there.

A photograph of you can make an email feel much more personal than a wall of text.

You could use your images for:

  • Newsletter headers
  • Welcome emails
  • Email signatures
  • New service announcements
  • Offers
  • Blog promotion
  • Client stories
  • Behind-the-scenes emails

For example, imagine receiving an email from a business owner you've been following and seeing a photograph of them at their desk with their coffee, surrounded by the things that make up their working day.

It immediately feels more personal.

People buy from people and your photographs help your audience get to know the person behind the business.

Examples of how to use branding photos on promotional graphics and printed marketing material

Don't forget about the real world!

Your branding photos don't have to live entirely online.

They can be used in:

  • Business cards
  • Leaflets
  • Brochures
  • Flyers
  • Roller banners
  • Presentation folders
  • Postcards
  • Printed newsletters
  • Event materials
  • Exhibition stands

Having a consistent collection of professional images makes it much easier to create printed marketing that looks polished and cohesive.

And if you attend exhibitions, trade shows or networking events, photographs of you can be particularly powerful.

People are much more likely to remember a face than a generic image.

And finally ... everywhere else you show up!

Your branding photos can also be used in all those places you might not have thought about.

Think:

  • Email signatures
  • Zoom or Teams profiles
  • Speaker bios
  • Online directories
  • Guest blog profiles
  • Podcast profiles
  • Course platforms
  • Proposals
  • Presentations
  • Client guides
  • Lead magnets
  • PDF downloads
  • Online communities

Once you have a library of professional images, you'll probably find yourself discovering new uses for them all the time.

And that's exactly the point.

Your branding photos aren't just photographs.

They're marketing assets.

Make your photos work harder for your business

Montage of branding photos for Little Piggy Marketing

One of the things I love about branding photography is that we're not simply creating a collection of lovely photographs for you to look at.

We're creating a library of content that you can use again and again.

That's why I encourage my clients to think beyond the traditional headshot.

We might capture you working, talking, thinking, laughing, creating, meeting clients, using your tools, making coffee, writing, using your laptop or simply being you.

Because the more variety we create during your shoot, the more ways you'll have to use those photographs afterwards.

And that means your investment keeps working for you long after the day of the photoshoot.

So, how many of these are you currently using?

If you've had a branding shoot and your photographs are currently sitting in a folder on your computer called “New Photos”, it's probably time to get them working a little harder!

And if you haven't had a branding shoot yet, I'd love to help you create a collection of images that you can use across your business, from your website and social media to your emails, networking and printed marketing.

Because one photoshoot can give you content for months, not just one Instagram post.

Ready to create photos that work as hard as you do?
